Senior Infants Class

In Senior Infants the children revise their sounds from last year and continue to work on their word attack and reading skills. The children learn more sight words, words that cannot be sounded out phonetically. The children work on their letter formation and handwriting skills. They learn all about numbers 0-10, 2d and 3d shapes, patterns, months, days of the week, seasons of the year. In Gaeilge the children learn new words and short phrases. Their general development is enhanced through Aistear, Art, P.E., Music, Drama, S.P.H.E., Science, History, Geography, Religious Education. Much of this learning is done through play, songs and games.

Much of this learning is done through play, songs and games. In senior infants, it is important that the children learn some independence, can express themselves through oral language and cooperate with the teacher and their peers. Social skills and friendships are important, we encourage the use of please/thank you throughout the school day and inclusion/playing nicely together. Our Senior Infants teacher is Lorraine Cole.
